Hawaii, Days 51 & 52 - Fireworks and the USS Kitty Hawk
Hawaii, Days 51 & 52
The first half of this gallery is comprised of shots of the fireworks for the 4th of July celebration at Alamoana Center. This is the first time I have ever attempted to photograph fireworks, and I would say that I did an okay job. The location wasn't perfect, nor was my equipment setup, and I didn't know what I was doing. The best pictures are featured in the gallery.
The second half of this gallery is split between the 4th and the 5th of July. The two pictures of the buildings were taken on the 4th as we were walking back from the fireworks show. I love how the shots of the buildings turned out, especially the second one. I toyed with the idea of removing the yellow cast that the street lights give the buildings, but I prefer them to have the yellow on them. The pictures from the 5th are of the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-61) as she sits in Pearl Harbor. The Kitty Hawk is currently based out of Pearl Harbor as she is participating in the RIMPAC exercises. This was one of the last opportunities to photograph her, because after RIMPAC she is steaming to Washington state to be decommisioned, stripped down, and then towed to an as-yet undetermined location to be sunk as artificial reef. Justin and I spent some time driving around the naval station looking at all of the carrier support vessels in port, including Japanese vessels, and a collection of submarines. Unfortunately photography was prohibited on base, so I couldn't take pictures of any of the other ships.
