Hawaii, Day 53 - Manoa Falls and Aihualama/Pauoa Flats
Hawaii, Day 53
Another Sunday, another hike. This time the hike was planned to Manoa Falls. The trail to the falls was muddy and slightly technical, but it is a popular tourist destination, so the path was very well maintained. The falls were more of a trickle, as the summer is the dry season in Hawaii, but it was still very beautiful and worth the hike.
Branching off of the Manoa Falls Trail is the Aihualama Trail, which is a much more technical hiking trail that leads to the peak of the mountian and meets up with the Pauoa Flats Trail. We didn't originally plan on hiking this trail, in fact we didn't even know it was there until we came upon the trailhead. Up we went, further and further. It was a very long, tiring hike, but when we reached the peak it was totally worth it for the view alone. Altogether we hiked 6 miles of horizontal distance and about 1500ft of vertical distance.
