Hawaii, Day 67 - Maui

Hawaii, Day 67

Justin, Donna, Isaac, and I took the ferry over to Maui for the day. The ferry leaves Honolulu at 6:30AM, and you have to be present at 5:30 to board, so it was a very early start to the day. Once on board, I had some time to take pictures of sunrise over downtown, which comprise the first 3 shots of the gallery. When we landed on Maui we headed for the Maui Marine Life and Aquatic Center, which was educational, as it features predominantly local species of flora and fauna. After that we decided to head up to the top of Haleakala, the highest peak on Maui, at just over 10,000 feet. The temperature gradient between ocean and peak was about 25 degrees, so it felt pretty darn cold at the peak. When we first arrived it was very cloudy, but the clouds disapated long enough for me to get some shots of the crater. We then headed down the mountain and into the Iao Valley, which is a dense jungle valley formed where the Eastern and Western volcano ranges come together. After that it was back onto the ferry for the ride home.
